The Australian government has launched a new grant round under the Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES), inviting applications from organisations seeking to deliver tailored employment support in remote communities.

The RAES is a new remote employment service that aims to support jobseekers with the skills, mentoring, and training they need to take up job opportunities, according to the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).

The RAES grants are an opportunity for employment service providers to better support job seekers to develop their skills, contribute to their communities, and ultimately build their confidence to move into a job, said Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy,in a statement.

I encourage organisations with an interest in delivering remote employment services to apply for funding to support job seekers and helpcreate sustainable employment pathwaysin remote Australia.

Successful providers will be mandated to utilise 25% of their budget to co-design community projects throughout the life of the programme.

According to McCarthy, these projects are expected to deliver even more innovative approaches to local enterprise development andcreate more jobs and employment pathwaysfor jobseekers.

The RAES will begin on November 1, directly replacing the Community Development Programme, which will continue operating until October 31.

It is expected to support around 40,000 jobseekers in more than 2,600 communities in RAES regions.

The RAES is the second stage of the government's efforts to change the way it delivers remote employment programmes and services.

According to the NIAA, the RAES supports the new Remote Jobs and Economic Development Programme, which launched in 2024 and is expected to create 3,000 jobs over three years.

Grant applications for the RAES will be open until July 28, the government said.
