Part-time remote jobs remain popular side hustles
The education industry remained the top field that offers part-time remote jobs for employees this year, according to a new report from FlexJobs.
The report defined part-time remote jobs as roles that require less than 30 to 35 hours weekly, while also allowing employees to work from home or anywhere with an internet connection.
Schedules vary depending on employer needs and worker preferences; some may require set hours, while others are completely flexible, FlexJobs said.
In its analysis of jobs data from more than 60,000 firms, FlexJobs found that the Education and Training category attracted the most part-time remote jobs so far this year.
Meanwhile, the project management, mental health, and administrative industries saw the biggest increases in part-time remote jobs.
According to the report, each field recorded more than a 27% increase in these roles compared to the previous year.
Slight declines, on the other hand, were recorded in the bilingual and IT categories, but they remained in the top 10 industries offering part-time remote work, according to the report.

Top job titles for part-time remote work
The rise in part-time remote opportunities within mental health and medical fields was evident among the top jobs with the highest number of postings.
According to the report, licensed therapists and nurse practitioners were in the top three job titles that offered part-time remote jobs.
The report said this indicates the ongoing demand for mental health and medical services that can be delivered remotely.
Compared to last year, there's a stronger presence of mental health, consulting, and multimedia positions, aligning with the growth seen in those categories, it added.

Trend of multiple jobs
FlexJobs' findings emerge amid a rising trend of employees pursuing second jobs to supplement their income.
Data from the American Staffing Association this year found that 64% of adults are looking to get a second job or start a side hustle in the next year.
Employees who are most likely to seek a second job include Millennials (76%), Gen Zs (73%), and parents with minor children (75%).
Richard Wahlquist, chief executive officer of ASA, explained that the growing demand for second jobs stems from employees seeking additional income to cover living expenses, build their savings, or pay off debt.
But FlexJobs noted that employees' desire for a work-from-home arrangement may also contribute to the popularity of part-time remote roles.
A previous report from FlexJobs and Remote.co in March found that 41% of workers have quit or considered quitting their jobs to pursue a full-time side hustle.
With the career landscape rapidly changing and remote work remaining a top priority for the majority of workers, we're seeing professionals across experience levels actively seeking ways to improve their financial situation and work-life balance through highly strategic job moves, including freelancing and entrepreneurship, said Toni Frana, Manager, Career Expert at FlexJobs and Remote.co, in a statement.
