AEU president Justin Mullaly said the trial could help attract and retainstaff.
What we want to see the state government do is introduce a trial that would provide some real flexibility for staff in our public schools, so that they might attend on-site for less and be able to have access to some work from home, Mullaly said.
The union believes the move could lure more people into the workforce as the sector faces a shortage of staff.

Victorian Deputy Premier Ben Carroll said the state's teachers were among the best in the nation.
Our teachers do deserve nationally competitive wages and they do deserve nationally competitive awards and conditions, Carroll said.
The Australian Principals Federation said it would be challenging to put the proposal into effect, arguing teaching is a social job and an important part of the job is being at school.
