The Role
based in Shepparton, this role will primarily assist in tender assessment to design management including design analysis to site inspection of works while in progress. While this role is mainly technical, it will also require undertaking client liaison, work package scoping, preparing costs estimates, negotiating variations, technical supervision and mentoring of work package teams, and cost and schedule monitoring to deliver bridge engineering work packages.
The position requires the ability to provide leadership and mentoring to small and medium sized design teams in development of detailed designs of Pedestrian, highway and railway bridge structures, concrete pits, concrete tilt panels. Design will often be carried out in close collaboration with our internal design lead and external design teams and will often involve client liaison.
Responsibilities
Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, design analysis and construction cost estimates
Perform construction related services including shop drawing reviews, response to requests for information, periodic construction site observation, and occasional specialized structural inspections
Timely execution of design packages, working within project time frames and the requirements of approval processes.
Compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Actively participate in and contribute to the technical aspects of projects to achieve accuracy of design.
Successfully manage small to medium sized projects.
Determine construction methods, materials and quality standards, and drafts and interprets specifications, drawings, plans, construction methods and procedures.
Analyse structural systems for both static and dynamic loads.
Design structures to ensure they do not collapse, bend, twist or vibrate in undesirable ways
Manage risks associated with project delivery
Client satisfaction (clients, government departments, contractors)
Travel to site and management depending on requirement
Qualifications
Experience in structural design, including detail design, inspection, assessment, and strengthening and repair of structures.
Appropriate tertiary qualification in engineering
Chartered Professional Engineer or equivalent
Minimum 3 years experience working with concrete and steel
Experience in in bridge structures design advantageous.
Exposure to structural analysis packages such as ACES SPACEGASS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design (SAM/LEAP), LUSAS, Autocad.
Knowledge of Primavera P6/MS Project (desirable)
Successful track record leading small and medium sized projects
Demonstrated commercial acumen, and ability to develop a client base
High level of general computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, or/and other project management applications, Microsoft Word and Power Point, Primavera P6 (desirable).
